Motorhome Route Visiting The Traitors Ireland Filming Locations (BBC1 Guide)

Since the Irish version of The Traitors began airing on BBC1, viewers have been asking the same questions: where was The Traitors Ireland filmed? Can you visit the castle? And how can you explore the filming locations for yourself?

In this guide, I answer the most searched questions about The Traitors Ireland filming locations and explain I’ve turned them into a carefully planned 48-hour motorhome route through some of Ireland’s most atmospheric landscapes.

Where Is The Traitors Ireland Filmed?

The Irish version of The Traitors was filmed at dramatic and historic locations across Ireland, chosen for their moody atmosphere, sweeping grounds and cinematic interiors.

The centrepiece location — often referred to by viewers as “the Traitors Ireland castle” — is a real Irish estate that can be visited. Several surrounding areas used in the series are also accessible to the public.

Can You Visit The Traitors Ireland Castle?

Yes, many of the locations featured in The Traitors Ireland are genuine Irish heritage properties and estates.

Some operate as:

  • Visitor attractions

  • Event venues

  • Accommodation

  • Seasonal tour sites

Opening times vary, so it’s important to check access in advance.

If you’re travelling by motorhome, you’ll also need to consider parking suitability and nearby overnight options — something I’ve factored into my 48-hour route guide.

Slane Castle is a private residence housing also a distillery on site. However there are  a number of options to visit & you can even stay overnight in some of the rooms. The distillery is only an option for group tours. Your best option is to book an afternoon tea & tour & they even have  a traitors themed one which I went on & is so worth doing. You get lots of nuggets of background info having an introduction talk in the breakfast room (aka Slane castle entrance Hall) & having your tea in the round table room before finishing in the traitors meeting room dungeon.

Where Exactly Was The Traitors Ireland Filmed?

Filming took place in the east of Ireland, within reach of historic estates, ancient landscapes and riverside scenery in The Boyne Valley.

The production team selected locations that feel remote and atmospheric, but in reality many are within comfortable driving distance of each other — making them ideal for a short motorhome route.

This means you can experience the setting of the series without long, exhausting travel days.

Can You Do A Traitors Ireland Road Trip?

Absolutely.

In fact, the filming locations lend themselves perfectly to a short themed road trip. The key is structuring it properly so you:

  • Avoid busy peak hours

  • Know where motorhome parking is realistic

  • Combine filming sites with other nearby hidden gems

Rather than simply driving to one castle and leaving, a structured 48-hour motorhome route allows you to experience the atmosphere properly.

Is There A Motorhome Route For The Traitors Ireland Filming Locations?

Yes — and that’s exactly why I created Lost & Loyal, a 48-hour motorhome route inspired by The Traitors Ireland.

It includes:

  • Filming locations featured in the BBC1 Irish series

  • Scenic overnight basecamp

  • Local heritage sites nearby

  • “Quests” inspired by the spirit of the show

  • Practical guidance for slow travel

This isn’t an official partnership — it’s an experience-led route designed for motorhome travellers who want something a little different from the usual itinerary.

Is It Worth Visiting The Traitors Ireland Locations After The Series Ends?

Interest often peaks while a show is airing, but filming locations usually continue attracting visitors long after broadcast.

In Ireland especially, historic estates and atmospheric settings don’t lose their appeal. Even without the TV connection, they remain:

  • Architecturally impressive
  • Rich in history
  • Surrounded by beautiful landscape

The TV link simply adds another layer of storytelling to your trip.

How Long Do You Need To Visit The Traitors Ireland Locations?

You could visit one location in a day — but to do it properly and soak up the atmosphere, a 48-hour motorhome route works far better.

That timeframe allows for:

  • Leisurely exploration

  • Scenic driving

  • Evening ambience

  • Extra heritage stops nearby

It turns a quick stop into a memorable themed getaway.
